Stay toasty on Bonfire Night…

Guy Fawkes Night is the one night of the year where we gather together with friends and family to enjoy some spectacular fireworks displays. Although the night has its history in political treason, it’s modern incarnation is one of celebration and togetherness – perfect as the wintry weather draws in.

It’s nearly the end of October and Halloween is upon us….which means bonfire night is just around the corner! The weather is getting colder and the air is getting crisper. Although it’s cold more often than not for bonfire night events, which take place the week and weekend surrounding the 5th November, it doesn’t mean you have to feel it in your bones. In fact, it’s often the perfect opportunity to test the function and style of your winter wardrobe. At Seventy Three, we know it’s the perfect excuse to stock up on hats, gloves, scarves, and all-things-insulated. With a wide range of accessories from brands such as Barts and The North Face, we have you covered this year!

Hats and Headbands

Let’s start at the top and work our way down. We all know that heat escapes from your head, which is why it’s such a great feeling when you pull your super warm hat down over your ears and embrace the warmth. For November weather and all its unpredictability, it’s wise to opt for a wooly hat that offers maximum warmth while keeping you on trend.

Barts of Amsterdam is a winter accessory brand we love, having started in the not-so-cold St Tropez in 1986. However, they make some fantastic hats and scarves designed with the very best materials. For women, we love the Sandy Pom Pom Beanie in burgundy (below, left) which uses fiery autumnal shades to create a look that works for most styles. Staying with the Pom Pom style we also love the Nicole Beanie (below, middle) which compliments all skin tones and has style and comfort built in. Similarly, the men’s Knit Beanie hat in orange is a classic style with a contemporary colour scheme that adds style to any bonfire night outfit. This one is a great unisex item too, suitable for anyone and everyone.

If you’re looking for something a bit more subtle, this women’s headband in rust from Barts is a sleek and stylish band made from soft yarn that doesn’t cause itching, perfect for prolonged wearing. And don’t forget your ears! The faux fur earmuffs from Barts (above, right) come in this season’s must-have leopard print to add a little bit of fun to your Guy Fawkes night outfit.

If you’re a Tommy Shelby fan, why not opt for a Peaky Blinders-inspired flat cap to top off your look? The Dayton cap is made from a soft wool blend and comes with an adjustable fitting at the back. Or, for a slightly different look, we stock the Jamaica newsboy cap, also from the masters at Barts.

The North Face and Timberland also have some great hats for men and women this season. This cute pink cable knit beanie (below, left) also comes in grey and has a scarf that matches. The classic Salty Dog unisex beanie from The North Face (below, middle) is a classic best-seller that is brought back year after year. And finally the men’s Gulf Reach beanie comes in 4 versatile shades for winter 2019 and is the perfect go-to for casual styling.

Gloves and Scarves

When it comes to the winter months, we often forget where we’ve hidden our gloves away – maybe it’s time to get a new pair? A pair we particularly love is the Nubuck from Timberland. With touch tips, these gloves allow you to carry on using your smartphone, so you capture your family’s firework reaction faces without getting cold fingers. Another classic look from Timberland comes by way of the Magic fold-over cuff glove (which also comes with touch tips). They are super snug with a terry fleece lining for the ultimate warmth whatever the temperature.

For women who love to style their look from top to bottom, the leather and wool gloves from Timberland are eye-catching with leather on the palm and wool over the back of the hand. With a fleece lining to keep you cosy, they are able to be used on device screens, so you never have to struggle in and out of them to make a call or take a picture.

And why not add an extra cosy layer with one of these great scarves? The colourblock women’s blanket scarf (below, left) from Timberland comes in pink and grey and will look great layered up over your Timberland coat or jacket. The Samara scarf from Barts (below, middle) is the perfect autumnal accessory in shades of deep rust featuring playful frayed edges on all sides. And finally for men, the Plaid scarf from Timberland comes in four shades, and is the perfect addition to your winter wardrobe. The only issue may be that you won’t be able to choose which colour you want!

Cold Weather Coats

The wind chill can be unforgiving as bonfire night goes on, and the last thing you want is to be counting down the seconds before the fireworks stop and you can head back home to a warm living room. That’s why it’s great to get a coat that offers all-over warmth, like the Snowdon Peak fishtail parka from Timberland. It is made using DryVent technology to ensure it is both waterproof and breathable. This khaki jacket features an adjustable trim and is crafted with a stylish washed cotton twill and is part of our Compatible Layering System you can layer it with other CLS items in the same size to suit your style, no matter what the weather forecast says.Check out our previous blog about Timberland’s new warmth grading system. For something even warmer try the new Nordic Edge Expedition Parka in white. Warm, waterproof and arguably the most stylish Parka Jacket ever from Timberland, this jacket will ensure you stay warm and protected from even the coldest of climates.

For women, we love the Mount Rosebrook from Timberland which is a perfect choice for winter. Not only is the burgundy colour perfect for bonfire night, the padded collar allows for extra warmth, whilst the concealed zip pockets will keep your goods safe.

So, with our suggestions, you’ll be able to stay the course and enjoy Guy Fawkes night in a stylish bonfire night outfit built for warmth.
